How much does it cost for an accountant to do tax returns for small self-employed company?

United Kingdom - 4 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Depends on the turnover and what state the accounts are in when you hand them to the accountant I guess. £500-£750 seems to be the going rate.
Answer 2 :
Depends on the size of the firm you use Some charge the same as solicitors....£250 per hour If you can not complete it yourself you would be better off by locating a local paper advert for a 'book keeper' working from home. It will be cheaper Or Cheaper even still is go to your local inland revenue with all your records and they will help you complete it for free
Answer 3 :
I used a small firm in Brighton - they charged me 330 pounds all in - brillinat! Saved me a lot of hassle. All i did was gave them a pile of book sand receipts and they did the rest.
Answer 4 :
I assume it is not a limited company, but a sole trader. Do you want accounts prepared or just the tax returns completed and submitted? Accounts depends on state of the books and records, so difficult to quote without more info. Tax returns (simple ones) £125 each.

Would an accountant other than give financial advice write a business plan on info that you give them?
I hope to start a driving school in the New Year and I have my market research done, however for the life of me I cannot seem to get it down on paper in a business plan format!!! I would like to think I'm somewhat articulate but everything gets jumbled up in my head when I go to write it!!! Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Answer 1 :
Try contacting Business Link. I think an accountant would charge a lot - there are other support organisations for business plans.
Answer 2 :
you don't want an accountant they are not financial advisors, unless they are registered as qualified. It is a seperate profession. would your bank not be able to help you?? seeing as you will be putting your profits into their accounts they should help but may charge.
Answer 3 :
Record keeping is the simplest. Book Keeping is more technical. Accounting requires years of Collage and the person is trained to predict the future outcome of the business.

How to become an accountant?

How to become an accountant?
hi im interested in doing accountancy as a caree, but i really have no idea what or how to do it???????? How long will it take to become a full accountant?? will i need a degree?, if yes in what?? How is the salery like? Thanks
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You would have to complete a Bachelors in Accounting at a good University. You can also complete your CPA or Certified Public Accountant Exam. It has 5 parts and you are certified after you pass the exam and complete the required number of audit hours or have experience in accounting. The salary range is from $55K to $70K to begin with and goes up from there.
Answer 2 :
Most accounting jobs require at least a bacholers degree in accounting (4 years of college). However, in order to be certified as an public accountant, you must have 150 hours, which is like 5 years of college. Most student opt to go ahead and get their Master's degree if they are pursuing their CPA. A lot of colleges now offer a 5 year accounting program, where you earn your bacholers and masters and are eligiblie to sit for the CPA exam. Salaries vary greatly by region, experience, and skill. You should expect to make $30,000 to $40,000 right out of college, I'd say. With 5 years experience and your CPA, expect anywhere from $60,000 - $100,000. I live in the rural midwest, so my numbers may be low for you "city folk" out there.

What is the route to take to be an accountant???

What is the route to take to be an accountant???
I have decent gcse grades, maths b and everything else c's, do i need to do a levels or is there a course i can do to get me on the path to being an accountant??
Higher Education (University +) - 5 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
The most fiscally prudent route.
Answer 2 :
A levels are a good step, it gives you a bit more experience before going into an accounting role and its quite varied so its good to have a range of skills so you can switch departments or move onto something else if you don't like it. Maths is a good one to have and really any other things you enjoy, i took Maths, I.T, Computing and Business Studies then found a job in an accounts department that offered training to go onto accountancy courses which is a good route, its better than studying it at degree level and if you study ACCA you can even get a degree as part of that anyway. Then once you have a basic accounts role experience you can move onto practice if you like or jump straight there after doing A levels but they usually prefer graduates but your much better off gettign a basic role for a couple of years working and studying part time and get your accoutnancy stuff sorted to jump straight into the role you really want. Plus you get a feel for the different aspects and can follow the one you most like such as Tax or audit etc. The courses for accountancy basics will be the AAT or CAT then move on to ACA ( purely financial accounts), CIMA ( managerial accounts) or ACCA (mix of the two).
Answer 3 :
I agree with agius1520, this is much the same route my son took and he has his CIMA qualification now and all the time still earning money, although much less than most of his friends at first but well worth it in the end. Much good luck to you in your future career.
Answer 4 :
Im doing AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians).. It gives you the basics you need to learn while giving you knowledge in SAGE, computerised accounts etc. and work experience, all in the one course. Next year, i intend to do the level 3 course, and then my options are either apply to University or continue at college to complete a technician status course. Best of all, this course is available at most good colleges! Good Luck.
Answer 5 :
This is a Scottish solution but I'm sure you can do similar in England. Go to local college and work your way through NC Finance/Accounting then HNC and HND before a professional course such as ACCA or CIMA. At least that way you always have relevant qualifications for lower accountancy-related jobs should you find you don't actually want to be qualified accountant. I did this and actually stuck with an HNC because things were getting too hard. Had I gone straight to uni I'd have dropped out with no qualifications. Best of luck mate.

The company looking to hire the accountant is located in Atlacamulco (approximately 40 minutes drive from Toluca) in the state of Mexico. The company is in the maufacturing sector and is one of 4 manufacturing plants in the group and the other 3 plants are located in Asia. What A-Levels would help me to become an accountant?

What A-Levels would help me to become an accountant?
Hi, i've finished my GCSE'S, and i got 2 A**, 4 A*, and 4 A's, i was quite impressed with myself with those results, but i want to become an accountant.. What A-Levels would help me in this?
Higher Education (University +) - 3 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Maths?
Answer 2 :
It depends on what you are strongest at. Is your As or A*s were in maths then i would strongly suggest taking mathematics and further mathematics. If you are going to take 4 A levels then do the full courses in both of these, if not then only take further mathematics for an AS level. Other good A levels would be economics or business studies. However saying this physics and maths go well together but it all depends on what you are good at and mainly what you enjoy. Its a lot better to get 3/4 A*s in something you enjoy but may not overly need than to get the same grades but have a bad 2-3 years at collage.
Answer 3 :
None whatsoever. All you need to be an accountant is mathematics, and you got that at GCSE level - right? Accountancy requires excellent mathematics, obviously, and analytical skills too. English Language is a prerequisite of any job, of course. Go for Maths, English and a Science. Although AAT is available at NVQ level.

is it normal practice for an accountant to ask for residence proof and passport copy for money laundering purposes? when does an accountant ask for these details? please let me know.

Answer 1 :
Apparently your friend had many dealing with large sums of money. The accountant is just ensuring that everything is legitimate.
Answer 2 :
Yes, when a certain income level is reached.
Answer 3 :
This happened to my wife a few years back when she opened an account with Bradford & Bingley. She was asked to produce a utility bill plus her passport. After giving this some thought she went back to the branch and demanded the copy`s they had made returned, which they did. They still gave her the account.
Answer 4 :
It is normal practice nowadays. Whether it is buying a house or opening a bank account you are required to provide proof of identification and in most cases proof of where the money is coming from. I have to provide the proof every year to my accountant despite having used them for at least the last seven years - it is the law.

Would I still be an employable first-time Management Accountant at 34/35 years old?
I wish to study for a CIMA qualification, though if takes 4 years to complete as generally anticipated, I would likely be 34 years old by the time I qualified. In such a competitive field, would I still be considered favourably for employment at that age, or are companies likely to go for younger professionals in their mid to late twenties. I just thought I’d gauge an honest opinion before embarking on such a huge commitment. Thanks.

Two words. Age discrimination. You do not have to tell them your age. There is no reason why a 34 year old shouldn't be employable as a first time Management Accountant. If you suspect there is any kind of discrimination going on, then you have rights and lots of them. Good for you... Go for it. :-) x

a British accountant who is a member of a professional body that has a royal charter http://www.icaew.co.uk/ this website will tell you all you need to know, good luck
Answer 2 :
You don't need a degree to be a chartered accountant. Basically there are two main accountancy bodies, the ICAEW (Chartered) and ACCA (Certified). Depending on which body you choose to study under will decide whether you are a chartered or a certified accountant. I left school at 16 and did my AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) examinations. I think this now equates to NVQ level 4. I then did my ACCA examinations and have been qualified for a number of years. A degree will exempt you from doing certain stages of examinations but you can sit those examinations without the degree. My firm employs staff and offer the audit staff to choose whether to do the chartered or certified examinations. Bigger firms usually want graduates to do chartered examinations but you can find firms that offer you the chance to do chartered if you don't want to do certified exams. And if you qualify as a certified accountant, its now possible to transfer to become a chartered accountant.

When you're a qualified Chartered Accountant, would it be more of an advantage to do a Finance Masters or..
...Finance Masters or an MBA? I'd like to start my own Accounting practice in future, but would like another complimentary qualification. A bit concerned that some of the things studied on MBA courses may be a bit or a repetition of what I may have done already...and therefore a waste of (lots of) money!
Other - Business & Finance - 3 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
It depends on the direction you want to take your practice. You are probably better off with an MBA so you can add management consulting to your audit and business valuation experience. Graduate Degree in Finance is for someone planning to work in banking. Many MBA programs will waive first-year requirements for students who have taken comparable coursework in another program of study. Some will not. I knew one Accounting professor who, when she was getting her MBA, was teaching the undergraduate accounting equivalent (with the same textbook) of an accounting course she was required to take for her MBA.
Answer 2 :
FCA is a good qualification, and is directly relevant for what you want to achieve. Personally, I wouldn't go for the additional qualification, because you are not trying to become an academic, and you would have all that you need to start your own practice. You may burn out with too much study. Why not put your energies directly into setting up and building your own practice. I doubt that future clients would care whether you had a MBA or not when looking for technical expertise. Also, there are MBA's and MBA's.
Answer 3 :
The easiest way is to stick your head in a blender now - it avoids an innocent person having to go to jail for killing you later after you rip them off of their life savings.

I would of thought of just his name, followed by ACCOUNTANT. Or is that just a stupid simple answer.
Answer 2 :
You need to find out which account body he is affiliated to and whether he has attained member status yet. Once you find this out you just put the initials for his registered body after or under his name e.g A Body, CPA or A Body ACCA. Membership of the accountants governing bodies often requires practical training after qualification and is a requirement before you may use the desiganted letters, so in order to ensure you do not get your son into trouble double check his membership status. If your son is not a member of his governing body you can not use the letters pertaining to it, you may however, put down the type of accountant he is e.g Financial accountant or Management Accountant. If he only has a degree in accounting you should put down the type of degree rather than the fact that he is an accountant e.g BA (hons) or Bsc. Hope this helps.
Answer 3 :
A degree in accounts does not qualify you as an accountant. It's often the first step towards becoming a qualified accountant, but he isn't there yet.

What is difference in the United Kingdom between a chartered and certified accountant?

What is difference in the United Kingdom between a chartered and certified accountant?

Careers & Employment - 2 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Chartered Accountant in Britain and Commonwealth Countries is equivalent to CPA in the USA. In England, Chartered Accountants have the designation ACA or FCA, in Scotland - CA. When in Public Practice they also do a lot of Estate work that in the USA is done by Attorneys. In the UK, Cerified Accountants are usually employees in Corporations.
Answer 2 :
There are six accounting bodies in the UK that have royal charters. -The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), designation: ACA and FCA. - The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI), designation: ACA and FCA. - The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS), designation: CA -The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), designation: ACCA and FCCA. And two others. The designations carried by UK accountants will depend on the body/ bodies through which they qualified. Members of the ICAEW, ICAI and ICAS are known as Chartered Accountants while as members of the ACCA are known as Chartered Certified Accountants or Certified Accountants Chartered Accountants and Chartered Certified Accountants have identical legal recognition and the work they do isn’t fundamentally different although, (especially with the ACCA), this can depend on the factors such as the field of specialism chosen by student accountants (management accounting? audit and taxation?) and the auditing, tax, legal & financial reporting systems they studied to qualify. For historical reasons, proportionally more chartered accountants work in public practice (as opposed to industry) than is the case with Chartered Certified Accountants. The other two bodies are CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) and CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) but these deal with different fields of accountancy altogether, namely management accounting (CIMA) and public sector finance and accounting (CIPFA).

Why would picking Accounting at A Level help with my career choice of being an Accountant?
I know this sounds like an obvious answer, im applying for another college and really want to get accepted and want to appear my best. Thanks for any help,
Higher Education (University +) - 4 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
yes
Answer 2 :
I actually work as an Accounts Assistant but I have no formal qualifications. It is possible to get a job in this profession without an A Level in Accountancy but it does make life difficult. Any job application you make will be greatly helped by a good grade in Accounts because they'll know that you know all the different points about Accounts that someone unqualified such as myself has to learn from scratch. As with most jobs, there'll still be a certain amount of necessary training but it will help you to already know what they mean when they ask you for something. It will also train you to use accountancy programs such as Sage which some people find hard to grasp (personally I thought it was relatively straight forward but I know some people struggle) and there'll be other computer programs you'll be able to learn i'm sure (I just don't know of any because I don't use them). I want to go and do a day-release course to get an Accountancy qualification because I think not only would it help me learn things that would make my job easier, but it would also make it a lot easier for me to actually apply for a new job in the future. However, if you're determined to get a job in Accountancy, I really would recommend you go and do the AAT courses at University after you've got your A-Level as that will greatly help your application too, and you'd get a lot more skills that the A-Level just won't cover. I've actually been told by a number of people that the A-Level course barely skims a lot of the required skills... On your application, it might be beneficial to mention (if that's your intention) that doing the Accountancy A-Level will help your application to University to do the AAT course and that'll definitely help in my opinion. I hope this has been helpful!!
Answer 3 :
Hiya I'm currently doing AAT accounting which seems to be the best around for a career. You can do it as home based, a college course or as an apprenticeship/work based diploma. I think you need to look at what you want to do long term, statistics A level, and business studies might be better chioces as they are a bit less specialised at this stage. You should probably go chat to a careers advisor as they will have lots of publications on careers and courses. If you go to uni though you could probably start off at a higher level on the ladder. Not sure if this will help Good luck with everything.
Answer 4 :
yes, you should do AL Accouting because it'll help you to get your basics straight before going into the more complicated stuff when you go into higher education. Or else you'll have to learn what AL students learn over 2 years, within the first semseter of uni. If you're sure you want to be an accountant, why put it off for later? If you have to learn it some day anyway, might as well learn it now when you have more time and more attention from your teachers. However, it may not be the best subject to take if you;re looking at college admissions. Depends on the degree you're applying for, but some universities don't recognise Accounting as a full blown subject (like economics, maths and sciences subjects). And just to add, if you want to become an accountant, going through the degree route is probabaly not the best way to go about it. A professional course through ICAEW or ACCA would probably be a better option...

I think you need a degree in accounts, then you need to train for several years with an accountancy firm.
Answer 2 :
Hi. I'm a tranee chartered accountant in London. There are 4 recognised qualifiactions in the UK which are recognised by the governement: ACA (from ICAEW), CA (from ICAS), ACCA and CIMA (management accountants). ACA is the more mainstream one and probably the one with the best salaries. Starting salary ranges from £18k to £25k. for ACA you need to pass 9 exams (paid by your office) and work for 3 years. If you do not have a uni degree do an AAT course first. (any uni degree is acceptable). your experience in sage and quickbooks can help you get a job. www.accountancyage.com has a list of the top 50 firms in the UK... start sending applications.
Answer 3 :
Chartered Accountant is the really worthwhile qualification. Damned hard work, especially if you are not already a graduate. http://www.icaew.co.uk/careers/ Good Luck, come back and say hello in twenty years when you are a partner in Touche Deloitte
Answer 4 :
It depends on how you want to train. If you want to train as an ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants) you will need to work for a firm of accountants, and it involves a lot of auditing etc. Usually they are very good at giving you study leave though! If you want to work for a company while you study, then the best qualification is CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants). Most firms only give limited study leave though. An average of 2 weeks per set of exams, unlike the average 6 weeks or more which ACA trainees get. If you want to work in industry I would recommend CIMA, but if you prefer to work for a firm of accountants, and maybe work towards becoming a partner, then go for ACA. Once you decide which one you wish to go for, contact the relevant institute, and find out what preliminary qualifications they recommend. I'm afraid I qualified a few years ago, so I'm not sure what the entry standards are now. ACCA is a kind of half way house between the 2.
Answer 5 :
there are a few job agencies who specialise in accountacy (depends on where you live) and they often come up with low-level jobs for people with no experience, like data input or something where you can get experience of working in an acounts dept. After a while a vacancy will come up (it happened to me quite often, i'd see them all the time) with a company willing to put you on the ACCA or CIMA course and you'll be an accountant in no time! Good Luck!

Why would I use a Chartered accountant instead of a regular accountant?
Husband is a Sole trader . Thanks
Small Business - 3 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
A chartered accountant is authorised by law to perform audits and issue audit certificates under their stamp. Even if you hire a regular accountant you still need to get your audit and tax returns authorised by the CA.
Answer 2 :
Hello christma... A chartered accountant is a member of a professional body that thas a royal charter. Such a qualified accountant would be hired by the bigger companies, for thier annual accounts etc., or by auditing companies. No doubt they would command a higher fee. If your business is small you would only require an ordinary accountant, perhaps a specialist in tax accounting. A little thought on the matter now i am sure will put you really in the picture.
Answer 3 :
Hi Depends what you mean by a 'regular' accountant. However so long as you mean someone who has trained and is regulated by a relevant professional body, then if you run a small company the answer is it doesnt usually matter. I run a small accountancy firm and am not Chartered (I am a member of the Institute of Financial Accountants) but I happen to employ Chartered Accountants and Accounting Technicians (and an ex Banker) - all of us do certain types of work and my Chartered employees actually dont do anything different to me (except that I sign off the quality of their work). To be quite honest for small firms the most important thing is whether your accountant is good, whether he explains what he is doing so you understand the pieces of paper you are signing, and that they are 'fighting your corner'. A Chartered Accountant will, of course, tell you they are the best and by employing a non-Chartered you are selling yourself short. In practice this is not necessarily true. Kind regards David Nicoll

Answer 1 :
Just look in yellow pages under accountants...thats what they do...and its not a complicated thing you are asking.....ring up a few and get quotes.
Answer 2 :
all good accountants should provide you with this if you ask for it.
Answer 3 :
If you have been trading for 3 years and not yet produced any accounts, I would be more worried about the tax man than getting a contract. You have at elast 2 years tax returns outstanding, plus the tax, interest and penalties. Speak to 2 or 3 accountants in your area, see which one you get on with best, listen to what they all have to say, get estimates for the work and go with the one you think will work best for you.

should i change my job from accountant to sales/marketing?

should i change my job from accountant to sales/marketing?
I am a qualified accountant but now I am tired of seeing other people earning more money than me. I am thinking of changing my job to sales or marketing, do you think it is a good idea?
Careers & Employment - 9 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
well, do you like that field? and do you think you would really like having that job? money is not everything.
Answer 2 :
Don't do it for the money. Do it because you want to. If you don't want to do the new job, stay where you are.
Answer 3 :
That depends on a lot of things - your aptitude for sales or marketing (they are two different fields), your tolerance for risk (many sales jobs are commission-driven), your ability to travel, your creativity level, and so on. Try talking to some friends who are in sales or marketing to find out what they like and don't like about their jobs. Ask them what a typical day looks like for them. Then decide if you want to spend your days that way.
Answer 4 :
if you would like to... yes... but if you truly enjoy accounting... then...no
Answer 5 :
Do whatever you feel the most comfortable doing. There is no point doing a job that you don`t like
Answer 6 :
Starting wages in sales and marketing are usually very low, though they sometimes have commissions, which can be a boost. Sales is very customer-faing, and can be quite stressful, which is why it has a very high turnover. Marketing could be a lot of fun, but you'll need to be the kind of person who enjoys working a lot with people (I imagine an accountant is not very customer-facing). Both jobs have a high earnings ceiling, though sales and marketing are probably more hands on, challenging roles at the executive level, and much harder to get promoted to. If you stick with accounting, and land a good job at a top firm, especiallya big international, you will be on the road to big bucks, but the work will remain quite similar.
Answer 7 :
I know the feeling my father and uncles are accountants and they have told me all about the horrors of scraping through papers all day. However, accounting being the language of business if you do decide to go into sales or marketing I think you will have a distinct advantage over the competition. My Uncle started off as an accountant but moved into business and consulting, and he has told me that accounting has helped him enormously. So I think it's a great idea to move into marketing and sales and use your accounting knowledge to your advantage! Take care and good luck!
Answer 8 :
I would go for it. You've got your qualifications so you can always go back to being an accountant if you want to. Your job is a huge part of your life so you need to enjoy what you do. The extra money is an incentive but you need to like your job also. Good luck.
Answer 9 :
Absolutely not. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to be funny, but if you are in sales, you will have to be a completely different personality. Sales is the only job where you get measured every single minute. You will have to put up with rejection, have eternal optimism and endurance, have sales genes - and honestly, I never came across an accountant who could make a great salesperson. Simply because if you are in accountancy, you are there for a reason. Perhaps the predictable work hours suit you, and the fact that hardly an accountant ever got fired for doing a bad job. Sales people do all the time. I would think VERY carefully about it.

Study business and finance with a particular interest in offshore finance . With these qualifications you can apply for just about every job you can ever imagine doing . I'm sure you have heard of a Swiss bank account ? every business in the world would love to enjoy such a thing if only they could find someone who understood it properly to advise them . An offshore account can save a company maybe 25% in taxes so 25% of a million gives them 250,000 to pay your wages with ! Answer mine please - http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApuLJOnktHYYG8oqJRXdNg8gBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20100212122830AAPUr6l
Answer 2 :
Get an entry level job at an accountant agency or sales job and find someone who can mentor you.
Answer 3 :
The personal qualities best suited to each of your options are very different. You might like to do more research and think about what sort of person you are. Also, think about how you present yourself as your need credibility in any career. For example, think about what the last sentence of your question tells us about you. I know an accountant in private practice who barely makes a living; another who works for the council who earns good (though not exciting) money with no personal risk or real responsibility, and another who works in a senior management position for one of the 'big four' accountancy firms and who bought a large second home out of his bonus a few years back. There is no similarity between their jobs, their personal commitment or their salaries yet they are all accountants. Almost all of the accountants I have known have been honest, thorough, mature, well-educated, unflappable, business-oriented, dedicated people. Selling can be a cut-throat business so it takes a particular type of person to make a career of it. All the high volume sales managers I have ever known have been outgoing, ambitious, socially adept, competitive, confident, results driven individuals with loyalty to whoever offers them the best deal at any given time. That's not a criticism as business needs people like that in order to survive in a competitive market place. Some have obviously received a good salary and performance bonus. All have claimed they have. The really successful ones I have known got their training with one of the blue-chip, sales oriented employers .... If you don't know who they are, you probably need to get hold of some sales/marketing periodicals and look at what is happening in the brewing/catering/hotel industry, the cosmetics industry, the soaps/detergents/ personal care products industry .... etc. In any career, what you get out of it will tend to be proportional to what you put into it. No one starts at the top so you have got to be prepared to put in the hours and achieve the results if you want to get on. It helps if you enjoy what you are doing which brings me back to my original point: know yourself.

Why would picking ICT at A Level help with my career choice of being an Accountant?
I know this sounds like an obvious answer, im applying for another college and really want to get accepted and want to appear my best. Thanks for any help,

Answer 1 :
Depends on what they teach for ICT at A-Level. Any prgramming or circuit board / logic, or is it all Dreamweaver and Photoshop? If it's proper IT stuff then you'll be a step ahead of any accountant in the office when it comes to trouble shooting what's wrong with the printers! (Not a joke). I'd still go for an Accounting career over IT - it's all so very commoditized now and we get paid low wages. If that's not your cuppa, try a finance career in the City - there's nothing left in the manufacturing/production sector. I left IT a couple of years ago.

How would a trainee accountant show entrepreneurial spirit?

How would a trainee accountant show entrepreneurial spirit?

Other - Careers & Employment - 4 Answers

Answer 1 :
By changing their career.
Answer 2 :
You work there for a while and you see how things are done, then you analyze how you can make things better and more efficient and save the company money.
Answer 3 :
Open you own income tax preparation company or maybe start a property management company.
Answer 4 :
Do you want to show entrepreneurial sprit to your employer, or do you want to go it alone. If you want to go it alone, as a trainee, you probably don't have the experience that you need to make it as an accountancy practitioner. Use what you have learnt and apply it to another business. If its for your employer, then look at what they do, try to identify losses that can be avoided. Or try to highlight losses that they may not be aware of. I workd for one firm when we made different colour widgets. When I actually provided a costing showing how much a colour changed cost the business we changed our production planning and reduced the number of colour changes each day by 50%, and saved several thousand pounds per year. It's all about using your initiative.

Is It Possible To Be A Part Time Accountant, Whilst In A Full Time Career?
Lets say for example that I have a full time job, and on weekends I wanted to work as an accountant, would this be possible. Most accountants are self-employed and they can be as flexible as they want with their hours..... How realistic is this? I am thinking of doing an accountancy course which will allow me to practice accountancy on weekends.

Cant help will course's at weekends... best look on www.bpp.co.uk that who i trained with! All the best, Keith www.spoilt-rotten.co.uk
Answer 2 :
well serious n real accountancy requires a complete education in chartered accountacy...if somebody is willing to hire you on basis of a course and is ok with your condition then you can
Answer 3 :
Depends on how you are going to get the work materials from your clients - most of them will be off weekends so how will you even get clients? - Income taxes are easier to do evenings and weekends - only have to do that a few months a year

Which website do I need to find if a UK Accountant has been struck off?
Hi! I am doing some research work and want to know which website to go on to find out if a (UK) Accountant has been struck off for that particular company. I am guessing that there would be a public record stating the same. Also I am looking for a website which tells about a history of a past Company - is there such a thing? I've Googled the Company's name without any success! Any help would be appreciated.

Answer 1 :
try the financial services authority FSA. They should be able to tell you if someone has been struck off.
Answer 2 :
Hi, You probably know about the Institute of Chartered Accountants. http://www.icaew.com/index.cfm/route/158423/icaew_ga/en/Home/Institute_of_Chartered_Accountants_in_England_and_Wales If the accountant was a sole trader or partner in a limited liability partnership practice than it may be difficult to find out id this individual has been struck off. If they were trading as a director of a ltd liability company then companies house would show the status of the company and you could then use this information to ask the ICA to confirm if they have been struck off or not. Equally if you have their name then there will a press cutting as nearly always these cases are reported in either the local or National press. http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/

Answer 1 :
stalin
Answer 2 :
if there is a male boss, yes, but we also have to consider if the blonde female is hot
Answer 3 :
You cannot say so? Some are blonde bimbos. But some are tough as nails, intimidating and competitive. But generally blondes are perceived as hot/sexy and not too highly intellectual! But if you are in competition with them, don't assume they are easy. Judge wrongly to your own peril!
Answer 4 :
Any judgement made on the gender would, by definition, be discrimination. This applies when favouring females over males, just the same as if favouring males over females. Its also quite likely that favouring blonde hair would be racial discrimination, on the basis that blonde hair is only common in north European racial groups, and is virtually unheard of in black African and most Asian groups. So if you did consider a blonde, female accountant to be more "competitive" you would be discriminating potentially making yourself liable for a large compensation settlement in favour of any non-female, non-blonde candidates.

Does anyone use quickbooks or is an accountant?

Does anyone use quickbooks or is an accountant?
In the company i work for the members use their personal credit cards for the business. When it comes to paying back the cards they use a company chepue. This amount payed then covers purchases for the company and personal purchases. How does one enter this into the books?
Careers & Employment - 5 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
When they use their personal cards, get the transaction record and the official receipt, to record...debit Advances to Officers/Employees, credit Accounts Payable. When they pay through the company check, debit the Accounts Payable then credit Cash in Bank...
Answer 2 :
It depends upon how your company treats the personal part of the purchase. It should be entered against a loan account for each employee and either they should reimburse the company, be deducted from their wages or treated as a benefit in kind and added to their P11d and then they are taxed on it. You cannot reclaim the VAT on these items.
Answer 3 :
All personnal should submit an expenses form with attached receipt of the expenses. Expenses should be authorised by a senior manager. Please make payment against the total of the expenses form. Accounting: (1)debit expenses in profit and loss account and credit Individual personal account (2) Debit Individual Personal Account and credit Bank ( when you pay the employee)
Answer 4 :
a former employee of mine is a a self employed accountant and an expert at Quickbooks, if you want his contact details email me
Answer 5 :
Debit the company expenses for the company part of the value (make sure you do the VAT element too) and debit an employee loan or expenses account for their personal expenses (again be careful about the VAT as this cannot be claimed back) and credit bank in the usual way. When they repay the money debit bank and credit the loan or expense account and as always be careful about the VAT.

What Subjects Should I Pick If I Want To Be An Accountant?

Answer 1 :
mathematics, accounting, calculus, trigonometry
Answer 2 :
You will need at least one higher math class, and if you have any other business-type courses, I would recommend those as well.
Answer 3 :
maths is a cert, english also and either physics and/or chemistry as it will help with equations.
Answer 4 :
Law, Bookkeeping, Statistics, Economics, Cookery. It's such a dull job at least you can eat well!!
Answer 5 :
Perhaps things such as - Business Studies ICT Make sure that the subjects that you've picked are what you want to do. Just because they're good for the job, doesn't mean that you will enjoy them. Good luck!
Answer 6 :
accounts, business studies, maths :)
Answer 7 :
Maths defiantly. Business studies and perhaps economics i would say. Have a chat with a careers advisor aswell maybe, they can be very helpful
Answer 8 :
I would guess that maths and English would be most important. As well as being good at maths you would have to be able to write letters and communicate effectively. If you have the option of doing economics or business studies that would seem like a good idea too. Good Luck and Best Wishes
Answer 9 :
Accounting related classes
Answer 10 :
check your school library for the UCAS book and check what requirements each university requires that will tell you the subjects required for your courses
Answer 11 :
You don't need to specialize in high school. Take college prep classes, heavy on the math of course, but don't leave out things like foreign language or music if you like them. You need an education at this point in your life, because you may change your mind several times. So now is the time to try many things to see where your interests and abilities really are.
Answer 12 :
maths

What does an accountant that works for a company and only does internal work for that company do all day?

Other - Business & Finance - 6 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
be on the net!
Answer 2 :
pretends to look busy
Answer 3 :
You appear to have answered your own question. An accountant that does internal work, does internal accounting work for their company all day. For example, some internal accountants might handle interdepartmental billing between branches of the company.
Answer 4 :
Lots. If you come to my office, you can help me with my workload! ;)
Answer 5 :
I think your question will be dependent on the size of the company, and its complexity. It will also depend on the number of accountants employed, and the seniority of the accountant in question. In my experience of accountants at the lower level, they work in groups and do things like double entry bookkeeping. They ensure that expenses are within budget, and that everything has to have a receipt. At a higher level, accountants have to be more than a bean counter. This is the case for any professional at a higher level. Effectively, you are no longer an accountant at a higher level. Your accountancy skills are your background, but they are not the skills you will use in day to day executive warfare.
Answer 6 :
An internal accountant for a company looks after the finances of the business that they are working for. This will involve managing the cash flow of the business; analysing projects to ensure that they are profitable; financial planning for the business to minimise tax payments; budgeting; forecasting; staff management; as well as other things that are probably tailored depending on the position that they hold and the business that they are in.

Basically in studying to become AAT qualified and then going on to become ACCA qualified (certified charted accountant), I am looking to open my own business in the future but was also curious as to whether going to university to study a branch of law relevant to business such as business law, property law or law in general would be useful. what are the differences between an accountant and a finance officer?

what are the differences between an accountant and a finance officer?
I want to know the terms of reference of the two
Financial Services - 2 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Usually they are relatively the same. Though when you get down to the specifics: An accountant office will often be hired by a private company to either work with customers who need financial support. Or to help the company with it's finances. A finance officer would probably do the same thing. The difference between the two is really the same as the difference between accounting and finance. An accounting officer provides account management advice and a finance officer provides fiancancial advice. Their basically the same thing. when you go for a job in such an area, your presumed to have knowledge in the field. And can handle both accounting and finance.
Answer 2 :
An accountant is a qualifed professional, who will be a member of the relevant professional body, and will be required to follow their code of conduct when dealing with their clients. Their expertise lies in tracking and recording expenditure, advising on tax liability, recommending new ways of doing things to boost profits, reduce costs, etc. Accountants can work on their own account (or in partnership with others) to offer accountancy services to other organisations. Or they can be employed to work "in house" and look after their employer's affairs. A finance officer is an employee or member of an organisation whose job it is to look after the organisation's finances. They may be a qualified accountant, but they don't have to be. If they are not (and possibly even if they are) they will engage accountants to assist them with their work.
