Answer 2 :
You don't need a degree to be a chartered accountant. Basically there are two main accountancy bodies, the ICAEW (Chartered) and ACCA (Certified). Depending on which body you choose to study under will decide whether you are a chartered or a certified accountant. I left school at 16 and did my AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) examinations. I think this now equates to NVQ level 4. I then did my ACCA examinations and have been qualified for a number of years. A degree will exempt you from doing certain stages of examinations but you can sit those examinations without the degree. My firm employs staff and offer the audit staff to choose whether to do the chartered or certified examinations. Bigger firms usually want graduates to do chartered examinations but you can find firms that offer you the chance to do chartered if you don't want to do certified exams. And if you qualify as a certified accountant, its now possible to transfer to become a chartered accountant.
