im about to go to college but unsure what career path to folow ive deciced either accountant or sales manager?
I need some advice about both careers has anyone had experience with any of these titles and what was it like? Will they be in command in future? Is it an enjoyable career and exciting? And of course what is the salary of both careers? What are the good and bad of these careers? Im in uk so please don't use dollars as im in a different country thanks help will be appreciated.

Study business and finance with a particular interest in offshore finance . With these qualifications you can apply for just about every job you can ever imagine doing . I'm sure you have heard of a Swiss bank account ? every business in the world would love to enjoy such a thing if only they could find someone who understood it properly to advise them . An offshore account can save a company maybe 25% in taxes so 25% of a million gives them 250,000 to pay your wages with ! The personal qualities best suited to each of your options are very different. You might like to do more research and think about what sort of person you are. Also, think about how you present yourself as your need credibility in any career. For example, think about what the last sentence of your question tells us about you. I know an accountant in private practice who barely makes a living; another who works for the council who earns good (though not exciting) money with no personal risk or real responsibility, and another who works in a senior management position for one of the 'big four' accountancy firms and who bought a large second home out of his bonus a few years back. There is no similarity between their jobs, their personal commitment or their salaries yet they are all accountants. Almost all of the accountants I have known have been honest, thorough, mature, well-educated, unflappable, business-oriented, dedicated people. Selling can be a cut-throat business so it takes a particular type of person to make a career of it. All the high volume sales managers I have ever known have been outgoing, ambitious, socially adept, competitive, confident, results driven individuals with loyalty to whoever offers them the best deal at any given time. That's not a criticism as business needs people like that in order to survive in a competitive market place. Some have obviously received a good salary and performance bonus. All have claimed they have. The really successful ones I have known got their training with one of the blue-chip, sales oriented employers .... If you don't know who they are, you probably need to get hold of some sales/marketing periodicals and look at what is happening in the brewing/catering/hotel industry, the cosmetics industry, the soaps/detergents/ personal care products industry .... etc. In any career, what you get out of it will tend to be proportional to what you put into it. No one starts at the top so you have got to be prepared to put in the hours and achieve the results if you want to get on. It helps if you enjoy what you are doing which brings me back to my original point: know yourself.

Why would picking ICT at A Level help with my career choice of being an Accountant?
I know this sounds like an obvious answer, im applying for another college and really want to get accepted and want to appear my best. Thanks for any help,

Depends on what they teach for ICT at A-Level. Any prgramming or circuit board / logic, or is it all Dreamweaver and Photoshop? If it's proper IT stuff then you'll be a step ahead of any accountant in the office when it comes to trouble shooting what's wrong with the printers! (Not a joke). I'd still go for an Accounting career over IT - it's all so very commoditized now and we get paid low wages. If that's not your cuppa, try a finance career in the City - there's nothing left in the manufacturing/production sector. I left IT a couple of years ago.

Basic book keeping is a good start and then move up the qualifications an eventually become a Chartered Accountant. It can be a long haul.
